The Story Behind Sälka

Sälka is more than a brand — it's a moment of clarity, a spark of inspiration, and a dream realized. Named after a mountain hut in the Swedish Arctic Circle where everything clicked into place, this is gear born from adventure and crafted with passion. After 300 miles of hiking through stunning landscapes with a paintbrush in one hand and a vision in the other, I discovered exactly what artists and adventurers need.

Each piece is made to carry what matters most — your art, your tools, your creative spirit — while setting you free to explore.

Some journeys inspire stories. Some inspire something beautiful.

About Me

I started making gear because I needed it myself. There's something frustrating about carrying art supplies into the wilderness — everything's either too heavy, not water-resistant, or poorly organized. I've always been drawn to solving problems by making things that actually work.

There's something magical about designing something from scratch and seeing it come to life, especially when it solves a real problem for someone like you. I love perfecting every detail — the pocket placement, the weight distribution, the way water beads off the fabric — and knowing these pieces will go places I've never been.

What Matters to Me

I use ultralight, highly water-resistant fabrics made from 100% recycled materials with PFC-free DWR coating. They're eco-friendly, durable, and designed to handle whatever adventure you're on. Everything is thoughtfully sourced and made to minimize environmental impact.

I care about sustainability, but I also care about function. I want to make pieces that work beautifully in the field and at home. That protect your creativity from the elements. That don't become clutter because they were made thoughtfully, tested thoroughly, and meant to last for years of adventures.

Why It Means So Much

When someone chooses to carry their art in gear I've made, I feel honored. It means they trusted me to create something worthy of their creative practice, something they'd take into the mountains or across the world. I wouldn't sell anything I wouldn't use myself — and I do use every design I create.

I want each piece to feel like a companion: reliable, lightweight, and ready for anything. A piece made by hand in Colorado, not mass-produced overseas. Something thoughtful, just for you.

What's Next

I'm always evolving. I want to explore new designs, refine existing pieces based on real-world use, and connect with other artists and makers who value intentional, well-designed gear.

This is just the beginning, and I'm glad you're here for it.
